Or Lin Feng could just go stop the formation? No real reason for him to park in front of it doing nothing, but then again theirs never a reason for the MC's inaction.

When someone is trying to figure out the puzzle, and its a matter of life and death for everyone, do you call that inaction? His role is not just to be the strongest and don't care about anyone else. He was given the role of being the protector of the continent. The 7 sects are not a war, even if they are in competition. His plan was to save the others from the other sects. That means park his ship right there and not go after the so-called "god weapon" right in front of everyone else. If he did do that, even if he was doing it to save everyone...no one would believe he wasn't acting out of greed. If he did that, many more people would despise him and many of them would die. Part of the personal strength mc is building for himself is his reputation as a defender of the continent against the demons. So how could he allow people to die without at least warning them? If he tries to take action on the "god weapon" then everyone will think he is just trying to grab it for himself.

That applies if you fill in the gaps with that narrative. The MC is never shown defending his reasoning for his actions/ inaction. He also got there 1st and could have done a lot more than "park his ship" in front of the weapon whilst twiddling his thumbs. A recurring theme with these stories is the MC is the epitome of good and righteousness, yet how many people constantly die before the MC does his righteous good. If the writers/ designers wanted him to appear as a critical thinker, then all they have to do is show it. He took action against the Phoenix and took the reward at the end as well, the guy doesn't care about his reputation or what others think.

Narrative? You mean the actual story narrative? Because that is literally what happened in season one. He won the recognition of the senior and the magic mirror and the authority to rule the continent and to defend it against demons. So, yeah, that narrative...in this story, precisely like that. I haven't read the novel this time but I am not sure how the writers are supposed to portray his thoughts for us to understand his reasoning. Sure some shows do indeed broadcast the thoughts of the mc so you can hear them and understand their reasoning, but I am sure you are well aware how many people complain that writing in the omniscient voice (showing thoughts) slows down both the fighting action as well as stops the plot from moving forward. Folks complain the show is dragging for no good reason.

The Chinese xianxia or even wuxia concept of a "righteous hero" is not at all the same as the Western concept of same. The Western hero archtype has a rather heavy dose of self-sacrificing altruism...perhaps due to the influence of Christianity. The Eastern concepts of heroism doesn't often include this. In xianxia and wuxia fiction, the mc is usually portrayed as strong and ruthless and NOT usually portrayed as strong and forgiving. In fact, the mc in this show is one of the most forgiving I have ever seen, but make no mistake, he is under no obligation to save his enemies and the people who have insulted him. By Chinese standards, it is perfectly accepted for a strong and righteous "hero" to murder people who piss him off or insult him, and when these "hero's " do so, they are cheered and lauded as having done the right thing.

I don't in any way disagree with your right to your own opinion here, what I am doing is giving a bit of perspective on this topic. Not everyone sees things as you do.
